Biography

Helen is half Greek,half Irish and started singing as a child when her mother, an admirer of Ella Fitzgerald, taught her the opening bars of “A Tisket A Tasket”.

Later, formal musical training followed at Goldsmiths’ and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama plus jazz studies with the award winning American jazz singer Lea DeLaria.

 A lifetime of varied performing experience, including concert recitals,opera,cabaret and musicals, brings added insight and drama to Helen's jazz vocals which have been described 

by award winning jazz singer and jazz radio presenter Claire Martin OBE as “ classy..stunning…with drama..and presence..”

Helen has recorded  two albums - “Under The Influence” with renowned jazz pianist and composer Geoff Castle with whom she has worked for several years, 

and “Amici” recorded with international saxophonist and composer Renato D’Aiello who has invited her frequently as a  guest singer Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s Club London.


Helen has performed in jazz clubs and most London jazz venues including The Pheasantry Pizza Express,Upstairs at Ronnie Scott’s ,The 606 Club, Cafe Posk, Crazy Coqs Zedel and a residency at The Bull’s Head Jazz Room with the Geoff Castle Quartet.

She has also hosted the popular Open Mic at Crazy Coqs Piccadilly where she also presented her successful show “Helen Sings Bacharach” with the John Crawford Trio.

Recent notable gigs  are “Swinging Shakespeare” featuring Geoff Castle’s arrangements of the Shakespeare songs by Sir John Dankworth, and “Ella at 100”. 

Also “Sarah and Clifford” a homage to the 1954 album by Sarah Vaughan and Clifford Brown with celebrated guest  trumpet player Paul Jordanous and “One Night Stand” - songs from the 1947 recording by Sarah Vaughan and Lester Young, with Tim Whitehead tenor sax (Nucleus, Way Out West).
